Chef Jeffrey Bagshaw

Having spent 20 years abroad, working exclusively in the food sector, I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to experience to the wonderful and varying flavours of the world. 

The main and most important thing that I took from my travels, that is the common thread amongst humanity as a whole, is that food is the constant focal point. 

Of course, we all need to eat, but Im talking something deeper than that. 

Im talking about the sharing of experiences, about bonding with your family and friends, I am talking about being gracious hosts with food as the offering- even when communication was difficult. 

The sharing of good food goes much deeper than the food itself….but it starts there!

 That philosophy stuck with me and there is nothing that gives me more pleasure than to witness people enjoy and share their experiences around the table. This is something that I feel that we need to focus more on in Canada. We welcome the opportunity to share this with you!

 I cherish what mother nature provides for us and take great care in ensuring that we provide nothing but the best offerings to our friends and clients. Prince Edward County is chalk full of small, wonderful farms and great people, producing a wide variety of the ingredients that we use.

  Whether its for 5 people or 55, we welcome the opportunity to cook for you.

How does it work?

Well, its pretty simple.

You let us know the details in a few easy clicks and we will put it all together. No thinking of what to make. No more having to stop for groceries along the way and more importantly, no going back to the grocery store for something you forgot. We have it all covered.

Chef Bagshaw and his team will show up on the selected date, with all the freshest of ingredients in hand, ready to cook our hearts out for you.

Good thing is……you get to keep the leftovers ….in YOUR fridge!

The food we buy is on your behalf Although we are as accurate as possible with our planning, there will always be product and raw materials leftover. Good healthy products that you retain to use as if you had gone to the grocery store yourself.

What type of dishes can you offer?

As Chef Bagshaw worked internationally for 20 years, it allowed for him to experience not only the various dishes from all over the world, but to study the ingredients and processes used to make them. As each menu is uniquely constructed based on the needs of you, our esteemed client, and we can cook to any level (from a good home cooked meal to a 5 star, 5 course. 

As an indication, we can offer authentic dishes in these categories.

What ingredients do you use?

It is our absolute DUTY to offer the freshest and best products available to our clients. We buy local whenever and wherever possible. We have several relationships with local farmers and prepare many seasonal dishes accordingly.

    Can you make according to food allergies and/or life choices such as vegan/vegetarian?

    Our team strives to prepare dishes according to our customers needs. Additional planning may be required however we certainly will do our best to make according to any and all requirements.

      Do you have a minimum requirement regarding the number of people?

      The short answer is no. We are happy to cook just for you, your family and friends. We actually welcome this. it’s very gratifying to watch families having fun ALL together instead of one or more members having to slave in the kitchen! Afterall, what’s the point of being at the cottage? So leave that to us……Relax and enjoy a nice meal that we have put together for you……finish off the evening with a beverage of your choice in your hands, looking over the water as the summer sun sets. Belly full, big smiles……that is what summer is all about!

        How long in advance do we need to book?

        For parties up to 40 people, this can be executed quickly (within 2 days) and is subject to availability.  For larger parties (up to 100), it is certainly workable however further planning will be required.

          What region do you serve?

          We concentrate our services in Prince Edward County exclusively. We have fantastic relationships with growers directly across the region and our ingredients are locally sourced whenever and wherever possible.

            Will you cook at the destination or will you prepare in advance.

            Well this can be a choice. Your choice, actually. If you wish to see the entire process and be part of it, we can do this …..but know that this will increase the time spent preparing there. If you are a foodie and wish to see how it all gets done from top to bottom, then let us know. Otherwise, we will have our busy bees working away in advance to prepare as much as possible for everything to be fired upon arrival.

              Do you offer cooking classes?

              Not for the moment however, as our chefs are on site, you can watch what he does and feel free to ask any questions!  Im sure that they would be happy to answer. Something that we are definitely considering adding to our service offerings.

                What is the difference between your services and a standard catering company?

                Although we certainly are related, there are also distinct difference that separate us apart. First, it is usual practice for a catering company to count heads and earns their keep based on a per head basis. Which is great and without issue however small intimate get togethers amongst friends get overlooked.  We want to fill that void for you. In our case, we charge a per diem rate so the size of the groups doesn’t matter.   

                Second important reason is that normally the chef of a large catering company works behind the scenes in preparation for the event. In our case, one of our three qualified chefs will be on location cooking for you personally. You can ask questions; talk about recipes, make recommendations (within reason) and basically get to know the person in front of the grill, if so desired. Consider us your own personal chef team at the cottage! 

                Finally, we aren’t serving the food as catering companies do. We are simply preparing it for you at YOIR place where you are the host in charge. Of course, we would be more than happy to help if required but our main goal is to provide outstanding meals that you can serve and eat where and how you like, in the comfort of your own surroundings.

                Wouldn’t going to a restaurant be just as easy?

                We don’t see it this way for several reasons. 

                Firstly, the further you go into cottage country, the less restaurants are available, never mind good restaurants.

                Now why would you want to pack everyone up and go sit in a booth in a dimly-lit diner for mediocre food? When you can have the food of your choice prepared for you while you and the family are out waterskiing?

                Also, many restaurants nowadays are using frozen prepared foods to cut costs. EVERYTHING from Cottage Country Cuisine is fresh and made to order with only the best, fresh and local ingredients. 

                Finally, in a restaurant you are paying for the building, the lights, the staff when they aren’t busy etc etc…..With us, you get exactly the food you want, cooked to perfection at YOUR place. 

                Best part is, you get to keep the leftovers in your fridge for the next day! If there are any 😊

                • Portable Pizza Over for Fresh Pizza (NEW)
                • Large Propane Stock Pot Boiler
                • Refrigerator (If required)
                • Sun Shelter
                • Generator (If required)
                • Steam Tables
                • Warming Tables
                • Prep Tables 

                *Note- You are the host, this is your party. We are simply there to provide the chef services and to prepare and plate the foods. Under normal circumstances, the dinnerware (i.e.-plates, cutlery, glasses etc.) will be furnished by the client. If unable to satisfy the required amount for your guests, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate (additional costs will be applied) 

                We arrive fully equipped and ready to put on a feast for you!

                Rates

                As this is largely based on the number of clients and the type of menu desired, it is not possible to estimate. Basically, we work on a very reasonable per-diem basis plus gas allowance (per Km) and the food costs will be borne by client (market value- as if you were going to the supermarket yourselves) .

                The specific cost will be heavily dependent on the complexity of the meal desired, the availability of ingredients and your location.

                Once you complete these easy steps, we will do our calculations and submit to you a sample menu (that our calculations were based on), along with a very detailed proforma invoice outlining all costs along with the total, for your review and confirmation.

                If in agreement, simply click the CONFIRM button on the email and you will receive a notice of confirmation of booking from us.

                A non-refundable deposit of half of the proforma invoice value will then be removed from your payment method of choice. Of course, this will be applied to the total due upon completion of service. We will send you another email once finished on site to complete the transaction and with a quick request to rate our services.

                NOTE- If you book for 3 days consecutively,
                you will receive a 5% discount.

                Wine Pairing Required? Working closely with several wineries in PEC, our local sommelier will provide suggestions for pairings with local wines, based on the meal that we will be presenting you.

                 Payment Details 

                Upon completion of registration and booking, I will send you a Proposed Menu with a complete breakdown of the total costs by item. If you wish to make changes to the Proposed Menu, please reply by email outlining change requests.

                If in agreement with Proposed Menu as is, check I AGREE and click the PROCEED TO PAYMENT link provided in the email. This will direct you to  PayPal, where you will be prompted to pay the deposit to complete the booking (half the total cost). This also confirms that you agree to pay the remainder of the balance, in full, immediately upon completion of service.
